Rehydrated tvp is cooked the same way you’d cook meat crumbles, so this recipe is super simple! Pair with rice and beans for an easy, cheap, delicious & filling dinner.
The TVP cooks super fast, in under 10 minutes you’ll have taco meat ready to go.
If you’re wondering what tvp is, refer to my recent post: https://autumnsvegankitchen.wordpress.com/2019/01/10/what-is-tvp-ways-to-enjoy-it/
This recipe makes about 6 tacos.
–
Ingredients:
1 Cup textured vegetable protein
1 Cup warm water or vegetable broth
1 Tablespoon paprika
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 Tablespoon Cumin
1 Teaspoon garlic powder
1 Teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 Tablespoon lemon juice
2 Tablespoons of soy sauce
–
Steps:
1. Rehydrate the TVP in either warm water or vegetable broth (if you use water, you might need to add more spices). Let the mixture sit 10 minutes until the water is fully absorbed.
2. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add the tvp & stir frequently until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Then, pour in all the seasonings and keep cooking a minute longer.
3. Once the TVP reaches your desired texture, pour in the soy sauce and lemon juice. It’ll evaporate quickly, so stir fast until all the liquid is absorbed. Done!

Notes/Observations:
-If you you overcook the tvp, you’ll notice it gets crispy like bacon bits. It can still be saved, though! Add a tablespoon of water and try cooking it over a low heat to soften the tvp again.
